This is a list of the top places I go to buy flights. I work in education, so I’m not rolling in money. When I buy flights, they need to be reasonably priced so that I can stay within my budget.

Student Universe

If you are a student, teacher, or work for a school or other institution, this platform is going to be your best friend. (If not, don’t worry, this post has other options for you too). Generally the only type of travel we do is budget travel, so any discounts we can get are GOLD.
One of my favorite things is that Student Universe works with over 90 different airlines directly to get the best prices, and they even have amazing discounts and travel deals around peak travel times (i.e. Spring Break, December holidays, summer vacation, etc…)
They don’t just offer discounts on flights, but they also work with hotels, car rentals, and have amazing prices on group travel and flight deals that can be booked all together.
I have been using Student Universe since about 2014 when I started traveling extensively. Since then, they are the first place I go to look for flights and they are the baseline I use when comparing across different platforms. If it’s cheaper than Student Universe, it’s a good deal.

Hopper

This is a new app that I’ve been using and I absolutely love it. This works almost like a sky scanning app and it’s so simple to use.
You input the dates you want to travel and the destination and Hopper “watch” the flight for you. What this means is that Hopper will monitor the flight’s prices, and alert you if the price drops or increases so you can buy at the right time.
They also offer great flash deals and discounts on flights, hotels, and car rentals. So if you are looking for a spontaneous getaway, this is app is going to be your best friend.
My boyfriend and I recently traveled from Miami to Nashville for 3 nights for under $400 a person, flights and hotel included – all while using Hopper.

That’s it!
I know, it’s a simple post, but these are honestly the only two places that I buy flights. They are consistently cheaper than buying directly from airlines, and offer better discounts than all the leading competitors like Expedia or Kayak.
